Chennai: Write Postal exams in local languages

Candidates can write the examination in English, Hindi and local languages, where Hindi is not a local language.

Chennai: The Union government has informed the Madras high court that the candidates can write the Paper-I examination for filling the posts of multi tasking staff, postman, mail guard, postal assistant and sorting assistant in English, Hindi and local languages, where Hindi is not a local language.

Assistant solicitor general G.Karthikeyan produced a copy of a notification dated July 23, 2019 to this effect before a division bench comprising Justices S.Manikumar and Subramonium Prasad when the PIL filed by C.V.M.P.Ezhilarasan, state secretary of students wing of DMK party, came up for hearing on Tuesday.

Recording the same, the bench disposed of the PIL, which sought to quash a circular in so far as it does not permit the candidates to write the examinations in Tamil and other local languages and consequently direct the Union government to permit the candidates to write the said examinations in the regional/local language as contemplated in the circular dated May 10, 2019 of the assistant director general, department of posts.
