Nellai ex-mayor’s murder: Prime clue got from CCTV footages
Tirunelveli: Police on Tuesday have seized the half-burnt blood stained dresses of Karthikeyan, nabbed by the Tirunelveli city police in connection with the murder of the ex-Mayor, Umamaheswari, her husband and housemaid.
Karthikeyan, 39, son of Sannasi and deputy secretary of DMK Adi Dravida wing, Seeniammal, secured by the police to be the prime accused behind the murder of the former Tirunelveli mayor, Uma Maheshwari, her husband, Muruga Shankaran and housemaid, Mariammal, has reportedly confessed to the crime.
He was taken to the house of the deceased to get him to reenact the crime.
Later, the police too took him to a house owned by Seeniammal at Shanthinagar in Tirunelveli, where the police reportedly recovered around 21 sovereigns of jewels that the accused had stolen to confus the police that the triple murder was a crime committed for gain.
“The accused too broke the bureau to divert the police,” said a police officer, adding, that the accused Karthikeyan burnt his blood stained dress that he had worn during the murder.
However, the police seized the half-burnt dress of the accused from Sevalaperi village.
According to police sources, they got the prime clue from the CCTV footages collected from the cameras fitted at a nearby eatery and a Pentecostal church near the crime spot. Mobile phone records and repeated movement of a car registered in the name of the father of the accused near the crime spot, helped to nab the key accused, police said.
The police, though, are yet to officially announce the arrest of the key accused, who is expected to be remanded to judicial custody soon.
Meanwhile, the CB-CID SP, Mr. Vijayakumar along with CB-CID inspectors, Mr Premachandran and Ms Ulagarani inspected the house, where the triple murder was committed.
