Kurnool: Dog who played major role dies

The dog had played a major role in disposal of country-made bombs and detecting contraband.

Kurnool: Diana, the member of the dog squad of the Kurnool police, died after a brief illness on Monday.

The dog had played a major role in disposal of country-made bombs and detecting contraband, said trainer Venkappa.

He said Diana who was seven years old was inducted in the police service in 2014 and had undergone eight months of training.

A Labrador, Diana was amiable, agile and quick to respond. Diana had vetted the venues of all major VVIP visits in Rayalaseema, Mr Venkappa said.

With Diana’s passing, the dog squad is now left with nine canines.

Four are attached to the crime department, five with the general service.

Each dog is allotted Rs 5,000 per month towards food and maintenance.

In addition, they are eligible for medical expenses and cosmetics, Mr Venkappa said.
