Kollam: Sulky thief makes a demand

Leaves note to house owner for money next time.

KOLLAM: Thieves have demands too like anyone else engaged in decent jobs. A thief who did not get anything worthwhile from a house here has left a note asking the house owner to keep money and gold for him during his next visit.

The police recovered the note from the house of Sreekumar of Anugraha at Kallukunnu, Paravur, on Sunday.

An employee with the railways, he was away in Chennai with his family members.

The disgruntled thief was identified as Jose alias Motta Jose, a history-sheeter, who on Thursday last had robbed Rs. 50,000 and 50 sovereigns of gold from another house just two km away-that of Mohanlal of Anitha Bhavan at Dayabji junction at Paravur while the family members were away at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

While the police were in search of the thief after identifying him from his modus operandi and fingerprints, Motta Jose was living happily in the house of Sreekumar, where he had broken in.

The police got hints of Motta Jose's whereabouts on Sunday but he gave them and the local people the slip.

The police who entered the house found the wardrobes open, scattered items and food waste.

Jose, who apparently lived in the house since Thursday, had eaten the food brought from outside, including chicken and meat, and even cooked in the kitchen. He also used a shirt and dhoti from the wardrobe, washed them and hung them for drying.

Apart from these, Motta Jose also left a note for the house owner who has returned from Chennai. It said in Malayalam: "The next time you leave the house, keep money and gold for me here. Or else I will break in again even if you lock your doors and gate - Thief."
