Chennai: 33 sovereigns, Rs 30 lakh looted from two houses

Chennai: Two robberies were reported in the city and around 33 sovereigns gold jewels and Rs 30 lakh stolen. A 48-year-old private company employee's house in Aalapakakam and a 47-year-old realtor's house in Nerkundram were burgled.
According to police, Sathyanarayanan (48), a resident of Aalapakkam near Maduravoyal owns a private company in the city. On Monday, he locked his house and went to Thanjavur on a business trip. When he returned home on Tuesday morning, he found Rs 30 lakh and 15 sovereigns of gold missing from the house. Maduravoyal police registered a case. Forensic department officials lifted fingerprints and a sniffer dog was brought to the scene. Further investigations are on.

Shankar (47), a resident of Saraswathi Colony Main road in Nerkundram and a realtor had gone to Tenkasi on Friday. When the family returned home on Monday, the lock on the doors was broken, the bureau broken and 18 sovereigns of gold stolen.

Shankar lodged a complaint with Koyambedu police. Based on his complaint, police registered a case and retrieved CCTV footage from the spot. The CCTV shows the 24-year-old neighbour of Shankar who planned the heist. Police arrested the woman identified as Kaliarasi and recovered the gold from her. Further investigations are on.
