Work drags on: BBMP drains' HSR residents

Project pending for last one month frustrates residents, hospital staff.

Bengaluru: Incomplete and delayed projects have continued to trouble Bengalureans. At Sector 5 in HSR Layout, the BBMP dug up roads for the construction of a drain on June 23, but even after a month, the project is yet to be completed, throwing the life of residents into disarray.

The road opposite Agara Lake has a hospital, a medical store and residences. But for the last one month, the residents and patients visiting the hospital have found it difficult to making their way in and out.

“The drain has covered 9 inches of my gate. I had to cut my gate and build a slope for our vehicles to pass. I had to bear the expenses. My question is why the government cannot finish the project quickly,” said Air Marshal (Retd) Rajkumar, whose house entrance has been blocked by the drain work.

He said that if the project is not completed soon, heavy monsoon rains during August and September will flood the entire area and their houses. Chief Engineer, Storm Water Drains, Bettegowda, said he will look into the matter. “If there is a delay, I will look into the issue and get it resolved quickly. The SWD work near BTM Layout is nearing completion and at HSR too, we will finish it quickly,” he said.

A staffer at Greenview Hospital, on condition of anonymity, told Deccan Chronicle that they are facing serious issues due to the delay in the construction work. “The debris has been dumped put right opposite our hospital gate. The entry and exit of patients from the hospital too has become an issue,” the staffer said.
