Telangana targets 30 lakh tonnes of paddy in this Kharif

Over 43 lakh portability transactions took place,

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has set a target of procuring 30 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this Kharif season. The government will prepare a comprehensive database with information about every farmer.

Chief Secretary Dr S.K. Joshi directed the civil supplies department to prepare an action plan on paddy purchases from farmers in the forthcoming Kharif season.

“The state government has decided to purchase 30 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this Kharif and officials should ensure enough supply of gunny bags and storage capacity,” Dr Joshi said during a review meeting held here at the Secretariat on Monday.

Civil supplies commissioner Akun Sabharwal, along with Esuratnam, Prasad, Chandraprakash and others participated in the meeting.

“The state government procured 107.92 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from 22.18 lakh farmers in 2016 Kharif, 2017 Rabi and Kharif, and 2018 Rabi seasons. For this, the government transferred Rs 16,691 crore amount directly into the bank accounts of farmers,” said Dr Joshi, while asking officials to analyse 85,33,935 ration cards in the state. “Over 43 lakh portability transactions took place,” he added.
