Bengaluru: The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Bengaluru in collaboration with the International Justice Mission (IJM) organised an awareness drive on human trafficking on Monday, which is the World Day against Trafficking.

The drive was conducted at the Bangalore City Railway Station and the Yeshwanthpur Railway Station. Often, traffickers use trains to transport victims across states for bonded labour and the RPF has conducted several rescue operations to free victims.

The campaign highlighted the plight of trafficking victims and created awareness among commuters. Ms Debasmita Chattopadhyaya, Security Commissioner, RPF, South Western Railway, said, “Railway Protection Force of South Western Railways have launched a dedicated child rescue teams under Operation Nanhe Faristeh and rescued 1,100 children in the last 350 days. Let us each do our bit and when anyone sees any scared, dizzy or uncomfortable children along with suspicious adults, immediately inform RPF on 182 and help us fight Human trafficking.”

Prathima M., Associate Director, IJM, said, “Trafficking and bonded labour are insidious crimes which take place silently around us. World Day against Trafficking in Persons is a good reminder that there are still millions of people whose liberty, dignity and essential humanity have been stolen from them. Victims of trafficking are confined to factories as bonded labourers or exploited in brothels in and around the city.”
