1.8 lakh students to be given meals at colleges across Telangana
Hyderabad: The Secretary of Intermediate Education A. Ashok announced on Monday that 1.8 lakh students will be provided mid-day meals in the government junior colleges across the state. The menu has not been announced yet and it will be announced after the cabinet sub-committee meeting on August 3, 2018. The secretary also announced that TSBIE will be hiring 1200 guest lectures.
Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) has tied up with Akshaya Patra for providing mid-day meals. The sub-committee asked Akshaya Patra Foundation to submit at least three proposals for implementing the scheme for college students. The board has taken this decision as most of the students in government junior colleges come from poor background and come to colleges without eating proper meals.
The government will supply raw material and the foundation will serve cooked food under the first proposal. The foundation will handle entire operation and supply cooked food to the institutions. Another proposal will be to supply lunch comprising Pulihora, Black Rice, and Upma made from millets such as foxtail, raagi, and maize, among others.
Telangana has successfully implemented the Mid-day Meal programme for students of government schools. Earlier, the sub-committee asked Akshaya Patra Foundation to submit proposals for implementing the scheme for college students.
