Mysuru: With copious rains, a huge quantum of 133 TMC of Cauvery water from the state has flowed to Tamil Nadu from June 1 till July 29 after the South-West Monsoon hit the state this year.
The Supreme Court had recently ordered the state to release 39 TMC of water by July end and as per the apex court's final verdict on the Cauvery row too, it was sufficient for the state to release only 44 TMC of water by July end. With no balancing reservoirs downstream of the Cauvery basin after Kabini and KRS dams to store excess water, a huge quantum of water has flowed to the neighbouring state, according to sources in the water resources department.
With decrease in rainfall in the past few days, the inflow into reservoirs has depleted to a large extent, but it is still high.
The inflow into KRS reservoir alone which had touched over 80,000 cusecs two weeks ago, had dropped to over 40,000 cusecs in the previous week and currently it has further dropped. In the remaining reservoirs too, the inflow and outflow has depleted to almost half of the quantity it used to be 15 days ago.
On Monday, at KRS dam, the inflow was 16,693 cusecs and outflow, 18,056 cusecs. The water level stood at 122.58 feet as against its capacity of 124.80 feet. The water level at KRS on the same day in the previous year was 89.80 feet.
The inflow into Kabini on Monday was 17,044 cusecs and the outflow was 16,200 cusecs. The current water level is 22,82.89 feet as against its capacity of 2,284 feet. Last year on the same day, the level stood at 2,272.46 feet.
At Hemavathi, the water level on Monday stood at 2,919.87 feet as against its capacity of 2,922 feet. The inflow was 7,521cusecs and outflow was 5,200 cusecs. Last year on the same day, the water level was 2893.83feet.
At Harangi reservoir, the level stood at 2857.14 feet as against its capacity of 2859 feet on Monday. It received an inflow of 5,338 cusecs and outflow was 3418 cusecs. Last year, the water level at Harangi was 2858.41 feet.
Kabini reservoir filled up on June 15 and Harangi on July 7 while KRS and Hemavathi got filled up on July 14.
