Hyderabad: A Class X student was allegedly caned by the sub inspector and assistant sub inspector of Midjil police station in Mahbubnagar district.
The student said that on Saturday evening he along with 14 classmates had gathered in the school campus and were making plans for the Ganesh Chaturthi next month. They formed a committee amongst themselves, after which they settled down to have a celebratory soft drink. Just then, a team of cops from Midjil police station came upon them.
“On seeing the cops, all my friends jumped over the wall and ran away out of fear, but I was caught. They pinned me to the pole of the volleyball court and started beating me with their batons on my buttocks, hands and legs,” the boy said. He was taken to the police station and let off only at night. “In the police station, they abused me in vulgar language and also called my mother abusive names,” the boy added.
DSP Mahabubnagar B. Bhaskar Goud who is inquiring into the incident said that the SI and his team went to the school after a complaint from the school headmaster that the students were consuming alcohol and creating a nuisance.
"The SI and his team dispersed the boys. We are examining the facts and enquiring about why the boy was beaten up. Based on the evidence, we will proceed,” the DSP said.
