Rajnath Singh satisfied with arrests: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said that Union home minister Rajnath Singh expressed satisfaction on the measures taken by the police after the murder of an RSS activist in Thiruvananthapuram, a claim rebutted by the BJP. The Chief Minister’s Office said in a Facebook post that Mr Vijayan informed Mr Singh that the state government would take action against the accused whoever they were. The CMO said Mr Singh voiced concern over attacks on political workers and said political violence was unacceptable in a democracy.
The post said Mr Singh discussed the recent incidents of political violence in the state with him. “Strict action will be taken against those who break the rules,” the CMO office said. The Facebook post which said the a clash related to local issues resulted in the murder at Sreekaryam and should not be seen as a political murder. “The accused in the murder case have been arrested and all steps have been taken to prevent violence,” it said. Earlier Mr Singh tweeted that he had spoken to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the '”recent incidents of political violence”' in the state.
BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan, however, came down heavily on Mr Vijayan’s Facebook post and explained that the Union home minister in fact expressed concern over the failing law and order situation in the State which he had already tweeted. “But Mr Pinarayi Vijayan instead said in his Facebook post that Mr Singh had expressed happiness over the culprits being nabbed by the police,” Mr Rajasekharan said. “It is unfortunate that the CM is misleading the people and his office should stay away from it. Because they do not know the meaning of the word concern as his office has understood that it is happiness.”
