Bengaluru: A bike rider crashed into a police sub inspector (PSI) while attempting to dodge him during vehicle check drive on Hesaraghatta main road in Soladevanahalli early Sunday. The PSI, Naveen Kumar, sustained severe injuries in the accident and is recovering at a hospital.

The incident took place at around 2 am on Sunday while Naveen along with ASI Nanjundappa was on duty to check on vehicles. According to police, the accused, Puneeth, a call centre employee and a resident of Abbigere, was riding his bike when he noticed police standing on the road side. He switched off his bike’s headlight and increased the speed.

When Naveen tried to stop the bike, Puneeth, in a bid to escape, knocked Naveen down and fled. However, before he could travel a distance of 500 metres, he lost control over his bike and fell, leading to his arrest. Puneeth sustained minor injuries.

The police said that Puneeth had no vehicle documents and they are trying to verify if it belonged to him or not. Soladevanahalli police have registered a case.
