India to supply free ration to jobless workers in Saudi Arabia

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia has been directed to serve food to the jobless.

New Delhi: The government also immediately announced that the unemployed Indian workers in Saudi Arabia would be given free rations. Minister of state (MoS) for external affairs Gen. (retd.) V.K. Singh has rushed to Saudi Arabia to take stock of the situation and discuss the issue with the Saudi government.

“The number of Indian workers facing food crisis in Saudi Arabia is over 10,000. I appeal to 30 lakh Indians in Saudi Arabia. Please help your fellow brothers and sisters. There is nothing mightier than the collective will of the Indian nation,” Ms Swaraj tweeted.

“Indian Consulate in association with Indian Community Jeddah distributed 15,475 kg of food stuff besides eggs, spices, salt etc.,” the Indian consulate-general in Jeddah tweeted.

In a series of Tweets earlier in the day after a distress complaint, Ms Swaraj said, “We have asked the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to serve you food in Jeddah. My colleague @Gen_VKSingh is reaching Saudi Arabia to sort out all such matters.”
