RTC staff turn role models for jab seekers

Maintain total discipline; make the three-day drive a huge success

HYDERABAD: Setting up an example for those who squash at Covid vaccination centres, throwing all cautions to the wind to get the jab before others, employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), stuck to their time slot, kept physical distance and followed all norms while getting the jabs done during the three-day drive that concluded on Monday.

Drivers and conductors who fall under the category of super-spreaders, maintained discipline and all norms of the Covid-19 protocol during the drive. All these, while vaccination centres set up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) witnessed chaos.

The authorities gave credit for this restraint to traffic controllers, who used all their skills of managing bus traffic, which turned out to be excellent.

A total of RTC 5,000 staff got the vaccine administered during the three-day vaccination drive. The camps were conducted in 14 different locations of RTC, that included Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, Bus Bhavan, RTC Hospital, Jubilee Bus Station, Rathifile Bus Station, Kukatpally Bus Station and other important bus stations under the GHMC limits.

There are 17,000 conductors and drivers working with the corporation, among them many have already been vaccinated before the drive began. With a total strength of 47,000 employees, the authorities will soon request the government to vaccinate the security staff, office administration staff and garage staff.

Surya Kiran, chief personnel manager, said “Traffic controllers planned everything with the help of depot managers. Time slots were allotted in accordance with the time taken for shot and the observation period.”

“A total of 5,000 were vaccinated in this mega drive under GHMC limits, and the authorities are planning to send a proposal to the government to vaccinate security staff, office administration staff and garage staff,” he said.
