Hyderabad: A complaint was filed against Brand Factory, Secunderabad branch, at the district consumer forum for selling clothes at prices higher than the MRP, charging GST on the discount total, and charging an extra Rs 10 for carry bags sporting the Brand Factory logo.
Know Your Rights founder Shrikhande Umesh Kumar lodged a complaint against the outlet in Secunderabad. “A shirt that I purchased from the outlet was tagged at Rs 2,499 MRP. As per the discount on offer, I had to pay only Rs 1,499. However, I ended up paying Rs 1,574.38 as the outlet charged GST on the discounted amount — an unfair trade practise as MRP is meant to be inclusive of GST.” “The outlet further collected Rs 10 for a carry bag with the Brand Factory logo on it, thereby using consumers as advertising agents and collecting money for the same,” he added.
