Hyderabad: Identifying a pseudo cop can be easy if a citizens pays attention, said a senior police official. Their body language or dress, identity cards and speech will be easily distinguishable. A genuine cop will never carry out checks in ones and twos in plain clothes.
“The men pose as Task Force officials mainly as they do not have a specific jurisdiction like law and order or traffic police. An official from Task Force team can pick up, detain and nab a man for questioning from any area in the city,” said a senior official of Task Force police.
The impersonators approach a place of offence as Task Force officials and demand documents. Then they talk about hushing up the matter and take a hefty amount, leaving the organisers with a feeling that they were ‘safe’ from police raids. “To execute the plan, they change their name and profile in the Truecaller app as ‘Task Force’, use the Telangana police logo and mention their email ID telangana police@gov.com. In the case of brothels, they make calls by browsing a website called ‘Locanto’ and start their ‘inquiries’,” added the official.
He said in case of any suspicion over the identity of people claiming to be Task Force personnel people can call Dial 100 or approach the nearest police station.
