BJP loses Lok Sabha seats in UP, Maharashtra; decimated in state polls
New Delhi: Votes were counted for the by-elections of 4 Lok Sabha and 11 Assembly seats today. Along with the other seats, all eyes were set on Western Uttar Pradesh's Kairana where Opposition parties have come together to take on the BJP in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Re-polling was held on Wednesday in 73 booths in Kairana, 49 booths in Maharashtra's Bhandara-Gondia and one booth in Nagaland. This came after the Election Commission (EC) announced re-polling will take place in these booths after widespread failure of the machines in Monday's by-elections.
The Assembly seats where the by-elections were held on Monday are Noorpur (Uttar Pradesh), Jokihat (Bihar), Tharali (Uttarakhand), Gomia and Silli (Jharkhand), Maheshtala (West Bengal), Ampati (Meghalaya), Palus Kadegaon (Maharashtra), Shahkot (Punjab) and Chengannur (Kerala). And, general election to Karnataka's Rajarajeshwari Nagar.

07:10 pm: Maharashtra: NCP's Madhukar Kukde has won the Bhandara-Gondiya Lok Sabha bypoll by 48,097 votes.
06:39 pm: We are not against BJP-Shiv Sena alliance and neither do we believe that our alliance will break but effort has to be from both ways. We are ready for talks with Shiv Sena: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Uddhav Thackeray's remarks against BJP.

05:25 pm: "There were some discrepancies in counting. So, we appeal that results should not be announced till those discrepancies are sorted out," Thackeray added.
05:20 pm: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said, "Yogi Adityanath is losing in his own state and he is coming to campaign here (Maharashtra). Janta ne Yogi ji ki masti utaardi hai (People have taught Yogiji a lesson)."
03:50 pm: Home Minister Rajnath Singh speaking on the by-election results said, "To take a giant leap, you will have to take two steps back. We will take a giant leap in the future."
03:24 pm: Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav said, "I want to congratulate all the people who voted for us. This is a defeat for those who do not believe in the democracy. People have given a befitting reply to the BJP."
