Telangana online system for admissions misused
Karimmnagar: K. Sarita, an Intermediate holder from Sultanabad, was surprised as her name was already registered on www.dost.cgg.gov.in when she wanted to enrol her name for admission into a degree course at a college. This instance illustrates how some private degree colleges are indulging in wrong practices in order to get admissions, following introduction of online system by higher education authorities and aimed at bringing transparency. They can easily swindle money released under fee reimbursement scheme by following this strategy.
As many as 124 private degree colleges are affiliated to Satavahana University. Most of them use various methods for generating admissions. Earlier, they were enticing students with baits such as laptops and mobile phones. Now, they are gathering information of students including Aadhaar numbers from the managements of Intermediate colleges by paying huge amounts. Then they register names of students on the web portal without taking consent of the students by paying fee, Rs 100. Later, they approach them and promise some incentives like hostel facility, transportation and mobile phones. In the meantime, some students were shocked to find their names on the portal when they tried to sign up for admission into a degree course.
Recently, the University formed a high level committee in order to probe into alleged irregularities of private degree colleges in online admissions, based on directions of higher education department. Despite it the menace goes on unabated, thanks to greed of the degree colleges. Consequently, students who would like to register their names on the website are confused. And, government degree colleges are unable to secure admissions. University authorities say that stern action would be taken against those colleges who were found committing irregularities, based on findings of the high level committee. “If required, criminal cases will be booked against the colleges for misusing the online system. The process of registration is being closely monitored,” said an official.
