Seafood export increases in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: Seafood exports from Vizag hit an all-time high of 1.15 lakh tonnes in 2014-'15. Valued at Rs 7,578 crore, this is 22 per cent of all India exports worth Rs 33,441 crore.

As per a report by the Marine Products Exports Development Authority (MPEDA), frozen shrimp forms the lion’s share of all seafood exports. Around Rs 22,468 crore worth of frozen shrimp was exported from India during the last one year, USA being the largest market for frozen shrimp exports, followed by the European Union (EU), South East Asia and Japan.

 

Marine exports from Vizag last year were 1.02 lakh tonnes worth Rs 6,825 crore. Seafood exports rose by 13.24 per cent and 11.03 per cent more as per value over the last financial year.
