Purana Pundits resort to spiritual protest
Tirupati: In a bid to project and realise their long pending demands, TTD Purana pundits resorted to a novel protest before the TTD administrative building here on Monday. The pundits decided to give spiritual discourses without a break till TTD considers their demands. The woman pundits would deliver the discourse during the day and men during the night.
All of them are qualified Purana pundits giving discourses in various parts of the state under the auspices of TTD's Dharma Prachara Parishad since two decades and they have been demanding TTD to regularise their services. According to honorary president of Balaji Purana pundits' Union and Citu Chittoor district secretary Kandarpu Murali, former TTD EO I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, had sent a proposal to the government to confirm the services of the Purana pundits in 2010 but the government had failed to take any action even after six years.
They alleged that three Purana pundits already died and two more crossed 58 years of age but no helping is coming to their families. They appealed to the TTD EO, Dr Sambasiva Rao, to take initiative and protect the interests of Purana pundits. He said that the protest will continue if TTD fails to address the issues. Union president Bhagyalakshmi, secretary Karunakar Reddy and leaders Gangulappa, Raghu and Ramakrishna were present apart from large number of Purana pundits.
