KR Ramasamy elected CLP leader in Tamil Nadu assembly
Chennai: Senior leader and four-time MLA, K.R. Ramasamy, was on Monday elected as the leader of Congress legislature party in Tamil Nadu.
The Karaikudi MLA, who was once a staunch loyalist of veteran Congress leader G K Moopanar, would be the head of the 8-member Congress Legislature Party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
S Vijaydharani, who had a running battle with TNCC chief E V K S Elangovan, was elected as the party's chief whip. The Congress, which contested in 41 seats in alliance with the DMK, won only 8 seats, mostly in the southern districts. This is probably the first time Ms Vijaydharani and Mr Elangovan shared the stage after their public spat a few months ago.
Briefing reporters about the election of Congress office-bearers in the Assembly, the TNCC chief said the party would function as a constructive opposition in coordination with the DMK.
Mr Ramasamy's selection came two days after AICC observers -- Sheila Dikshit and Mukul Wasnik - held talks with the newly elected legislator.
