Demons at work? Crack in sword of Mahishasura on Chamundi Hills

Temple executive officer maintained there was no damage to the basic structure of the temple or tower.

Mysuru: After claims of damage to sculptures in the Chamundeswari temple tower during renovation, there are now fresh allegations about cracks appearing in the sword held by the famed statue of the Mahishasura atop Chamundi hills.
Temple executive officer, Prasad, however, dismisses all such claims.

“There is no crack in the sword of Mahishasura. Only the paint has worn out due to exposure to rain and wind. We have now got in touch with the PWD to paint the sword,” he said, when contacted.

He maintained there was no damage to the basic structure of the temple or tower. “The sculptures are made of concrete, so it is natural that they get worn out from constant exposure to the sun, rain and wind. A private company has been engaged to renovate the temple at a cost of Rs 50.13 crore. Artists from Tamil Nadu are working on it,” he added.
