BDL signs deal with defence ministry, to supply Akash weapon systems

Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed a Rs 8,161 crore-contract with the defence ministry for the production and supply of Akash weapon systems to the Army. The contract, signed at New Delhi, is to be executed in three years.

BDL also received an order of Rs 261 crore for CMDS for MLH helicopters. The consolidated order book position of BDL has now reached Rs 24,021 crore, according to a statement.

Commodore Siddharth Mishra (retd), chairman and managing director, BDL, stated that signing of the contract would give a major boost to the Akash programme. BDL and its supply chain partners were geared up to meet the production demands, he said.

The Akash missile is also being offered for export to friendly countries.

The BDL said 2022-23 had been eventful for the company with orders received from domestic and international markets, setting up of state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and unveiling of products for the armed forces.

BDL said it had received several orders for supply of Astra Mk-I air-to-air missile (AAM) and associated equipment for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. It had received an order for counter measures dispensing system and has set up a warhead manufacturing facility at its Bhanur unit, seeker manufacturing facility at its Kanchanbagh unit which takes it to the coveted club of RF seeker manufacturer and tester in the world.
