Thiruvananthapuram: Shashi Tharoor clarified at a press meet that the word ‘squeamish’, in his tweet after visiting a fish market in Thiruvananthapuram was being misused for propaganda. He never humiliated the fishers. A group of pro-Left fishers took to the streets against Mr Tharoor on Saturday. The MP said he would petition the Election Commission against the slander.

BJP candidate Kummanam Rajasekharan demanded that the Mr Tharoor should withdraw the controversial remark.

However, the MP on Saturday said there is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image. The press meet was attended by leaders belonging to the local fishermen community.

Through Twitter, Tharoor informed that his readers had misread his sentence and the whole problem was with the Opposition candidates, who could not understand his English.

Using the screenshot of a page of Olam online dictionary, he demonstrated ‘squeamishly’ also means frank or offended. He also showed his critics the screen shot of another Olam page to show that ‘Order Delivered’ means Kalpana Prasavichu (Kalpana gave birth).

Tharoor later tweeted, “Overwhelmed by the love of the fishing community in Puthiyathura, which gave me the most rousing reception I have had in recent times. Humbled to stand on the shoulders of my coastal constituents and I’ve no doubt they will lift me to victory”!!

He also went on to add that he has been deeply touched by the fisherwomen of Puthiyathura where they pooled their own earnings and handed him a donation towards his election deposit.

“I will treasure this contribution made by your blood, sweat and tears, and fight for your rights all the way to the Parliament”, said Tharoor in his tweet.
