Khammam: Congress candidate Renuka Chowdary’s camp, have chalked out a plan for the five Assembly segments-Palair, Khammam, Kothagudem, Wyra and Sattupalli where there is no party MLA.
Renuka’s strategists feel that the lack of MLAs in these segments is a ‘blessing in disguise’. Campaigning responsibilities have been given to mandal-level leaders.
V. Venkateswara Rao and his daughter B. Krishnaveni from Penuballi mandal under Sattupalli constituency are happy to have been given campaigning responsibilities.
Sambhani Chandra Sekhar said, “Not having legislators in the Assembly segments is not a worry for us. We have energetic Congress leaders in the mandals of seven Assembly segments. They will work for the party”.
In Madhira, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Bhatti Vikramarka is overseeing the state elections and mandal Congress presidents have been asked to look after campaigning.
Former minister Sambhani Chandrasekhar has been given charge of the Khammam LS seat campaign committee. Mr Sambhani will also look after the Sattupalli segment.
Congress leader B. Krishnaveni of Aswaraopet segment has been asked to look after campaigning and to coordinate with Telegu Desam MLA Mecha Nageswara Rao there. TD is extending its support to Congress in the upcoming election.
Many of the second and third rung leaders are insisting on giving campaigning responsibilities to their respective mandals.
Usually, the job of campaigning is entrusted to the party MLA who will in turn choose his own men. However sometimes, chances are there that it will backfire.
