Reduce GST to get our votes, say Kovai pump manufacturers

We request for reducing GST to a uniform five per cent for manufacturing sector and also exempt job working units from GST.

COIMBATORE: Pumps and spares manufacturers declared here on Saturday that they will support only that candidate for Coimbatore parliament constituency in the coming LS polls, who promised to reduce Goods and Services Tax (GST) for pump-sets manufacturers and job working units.

Following a meeting of the executive committee of the Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Spares Manufacturers Association (KOPMA), president, K Maniraj, said here, "the Coimbatore industrial hub, which is one of the major pump set manufacturing hub, is facing severe crisis for the past two years due to various policy changes by central government. Large number of micro, small and medium sector industries and job working units have suffered a lot due to high rate of GST and nearly 30 per cent of units are under threat of closure."

He stressed on the need for reducing GST and according to him, the association decided to support only that candidate who supported their demand in full. Elaborating he said, "The motor pump- set sector is being levied GST in three ways; a 12 per cent GST imposed on manufacturing sector 18 per cent GST and 28 per cent GST is being levied for spares. We request for reducing GST to a uniform five per cent for manufacturing sector and also exempt job working units from GST."
