Hyderabad: 117 spots to be mosquito-free

Hyderabad: The GHMC has decided to conduct fogging operations along the Musi river at 117 sensitive locations to fight the mosquito menace in the city.

GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore on Saturday conducted a review meeting with entomology department officials and instructed them to conduct anti-larval operation along the Musi corridor using drones, remove hyacinth from all water bodies which are breeding sites for mosquitoes and spray pyrethrum apart from conducting fogging operations to permanently eradicate mosquitoes.

He said the corporation had prepared a point-wise programme in this regard.

Mr Kishore instructed officials to weed out the remains of plants and debris along the Musi from Attapur to Nagole using earthmoving equipment and spray anti-larval agents.

He said that the corporation had formed in 42 teams with 126 workers to fight mosquito menace on the Attapur-Chaderghat stretch.

Mr Kishore said these teams did not conduct anti-larval and fogging operations in middle of the river hence the corporation had decided to use drones. He instructed officials to conduct fogging operation regularly with the available equipment in all 150 divisions of the city.
