SALEM: Three members of a family, a middle-aged couple and their daughter, were found hanging from a rope at their home in Athukkadu village near Poolavari near Salem on Saturday.
Police identified the deceased as Rajkumar, 45, his wife Shanthi, 35 and their daughter, Ramya Loshini, 19, a second year B.Sc. student in a private college in Tiruchengode.
While the family members after dinner on Friday night went to bed, the couple's younger son, Deenadayalan, 17, went out to his grandmother's place to rest for the night, police said.
On Saturday morning, as Rajkumar's house was found locked for long time, neighbours alerted the police who rushed to the spot, broke open the door and were shocked to find the three having committed suicide by hanging.
Police suspect the parents might have objected to their daughter Ramya wanting to marry a boy of another caste, leading to the tragedy. Further probe is on.
