Thiruvananthapuram: With attack on Shobhana George continuing on social media unabated following her support to CPM candidate Saji Cheriyan, the LDF supporters are planning to counter the offensive campaign branding it "anti woman". The LDF decision comes close on the heels of Shobhana George filing a complaint with the police about the abusive tirade against her on the social media. Her Facebook account has been flooded with abuses and offensive remarks calling her backstabber.
Saji Cheriyan has expressed his anger over the manner in which Congress workers have unleashed highly abusive attack on her. The Congress workers and supporters have crossed all limits of decency. There is absolutely no consideration worth the name that she is a woman and it is an insult to womanhood, he pointed out.
The Congress supporters took to social media in a big way to malign Shobhana George after the latter attended the LDF poll convention in Chengannur and extended full support to Cheriyan. The attack on her was scaled up further after she posted a video slamming Congress candidate D. Vijayakumar and branding him “traitor” and some who had always opposed Congress candidates in Chengannur elections in the past. The former Chengannur MLA went on social media with her video message in response to KPCC president M. M. Hassan’s statement that Shobhana had backstabbed the parent party.
On her part, she accused Vijayakumar of working against the Congress candidates in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016. Shobana George’s accusations against Vijaykumar have not been taken lightly by UDF supporters. In her video message she had threatened to come out with evidence against Vijayakumar. LDF supporters believe that the UDF supporters have scaled up the attack on Shobahan to bring her under pressure and to prevent her from going public with any damning evidence against the candidate.
