Hyderabad: Blue Cross, Hyderabad, clarified that the land allotted to it by the government 23 years ago is unsuitable for human habitation. The NGO was responding to the report, “Houses for poor in Jubilee Hills” (March 30), which quoted TD MLA A. Revanth Reddy demanding in the Assembly that the government take back the 3-acre land allotted to Blue Cross in Jubilee Hills and build 2BHK houses on it. The MLA wanted Blue Cross to be shifted to the city outskirts.
Blue Cross chairperson Amala Akkineni said the land was not allocated to her but to a registered society that has been working for the welfare of animals for 23 years. She said the land is full of boulders that rise to 200 feet and radiate heat. This is not an issue for an animal shelter which is open, she said. The land was allocated 20 years ago with full knowledge that it is unsuitable for human habitation, she said. She said the Blue Cross land is surrounded by hundreds of acres of government land that joins Borabunda, which is suitable for housing for the poor.
