CM K Chandrasekhar Rao to monitor drought relief work
Nizamabad: People of Nizamabad district are pinning hopes on drought relief measures during the visit of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on April 1. He will travel by road around 250 km in the district to get first hand information on the prevailing drought conditions.
Early intervention by district administration has quenched the thirst of the people in remote areas. Under CRF Rs 9.10 crore, non-CRF Rs 24 crore were sanctioned to the district. The rural water supply department has taken up the deepening of borewells and digging of new ones in habitations.
Collector Yogita Rana has set up a WhatsApp group to quickly respond to drinking water complaints. Elected representatives and others brought the woes of water shortage to the notice of officials. On the other hand, around two lakh workers are engaged in MGNREGS work by providing alternative employment.
Rs 315 crore was spent on wages to the workers by providing average 72 days of work. In addition, soak pits, magic concept has been introduced to improve the groundwater table in all households. Meanwhile, the farming community is expecting input subsidy for damaged crops and settlement of crop loan waiver.
Opposition party leaders also urged the Chief Minister for permanent drought relief work in the district. Former irrigation minister P. Sudarshan Reddy suggested constructing a barrage across river Godavari near Sadarmat downstream of Sriramsagar project.
