Bengaluru: Biocon employee dies in bus accident

The deceased has been identified as Revathi, daughter of Raghunath and a resident of Hosakerahalli.

BENGALURU: A 25-year-old virology scientist working with Biocon died on the spot, while two other employees belonging to the company sustained injuries when the mini bus they were travelling hit a lorry on the NICE Road on Wednesday evening. Police said that over 12 more passengers, all Biocon employees, had a narrow escape in the road mishap.

The deceased has been identified as Revathi, daughter of Raghunath and a resident of Hosakerahalli. She joined Biocon around three months ago and was living with her parents. The injured have been identified as Prajwala and Anup. There were 15 employees in the bus.

Police said the accident took place around 6 pm in front of SNN Apartment on NICE Road and the Biocon employees were heading to their respective homes after work.

The driver of the mini bus, belonging to SAI travels, was driving in negligent manner and collided with a lorry while trying to overtake. Revathi, who was sitting in the front seat, died on the spot due to severe head injuries, while Prajwala and Anup sustained minor injuries and were admitted to a hospital.

The mini bus got completely damaged and the sensing trouble the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Passersby rushed to the rescue of the victims. The Electronics City police have registered a case against the driver and efforts are on to trace him.
