THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: SFI leader Nazeem who had beaten up the police in front of the Secretariat few months surrendered before the Cantonment Police Station. He has been remanded in custody for two weeks. On Tuesday, it was reported that Nazeem who was supposedly absconding had attended two CPM minister's programmes in the capital city.
Nazeem was supposedly missing for more than 45 days. The CPM leadership had faced the wrath of the police after their fraternity members were attacked right in front of the seat of power, Secretariat. There were widespread allegations that the party leadership was keen on protecting him from getting arrested.
Currently, Nazeem is a member of the SFI Thiruvananthapuram district committee. The incident had happened on December 12 in front of the Secretariat where the SFI leaders manhandled the police personnel deployed before the Secretariat when the SFI leader breached the traffic. Nazeem allegedly brought many SFI activists from the University College nearby and unleashed an attack against the police.
Initially, four people were arrested in the case after the police association intervened. Nazeem was the chief culprit in the case. There was allegation that the investigating officer who was also at the VJT Hall in charge to provide security to Balan saw Nazeem but did not arrest him.
CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan had maintained earlier that Nazeem was innocent and that it was police officers who were attached to the BJP who had implicated Nazeem in the case.
