Rajahmundry: Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai called upon people to follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi whose 71st death anniversary was observed on Wednesday.
Garlanding the bronze statue of Mahatama Gandhi andpaying floral tributes to him near Kambhala Tank, the mayor said that the Father of the Nation had embraced high ideals like non-violence, non-cooperation, salt satyagraha and several others to fight against the British rule and to get independence for the cointry.
The mayor exhorted the young generation to follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi to ensure that their goals in life are fulfilled.
The mayor opined that unless the towns and villages in the state are fully developed, there was no meaning for real development and self-rule to the people and felt the need to realise Swachh Bharat, Swachh AP and open defecation free AP in the days to come.
Meanwhile, at the municipal corporation office, municipal commissioner Sumit Kumar Gandhi led the officials to observe a few minutes’ silence as a mark of respect to Mahatma Gandhi.
Addressing the officials, the commissioner called upon them to make sincere efforts with the support from the people to make the city as Swachh Rajahmundry.
In West Godavari at Eluru, SP M. Ravi Prakash led the police personnel to pay tributes at a programme arranged at Police Parade Grounds to Mahatma Gandhi to mark his 71st death anniversary and other freedom fighters who sacrificed their precious lives to get independence to the country.
Earlier, the SP along with senior police officers garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and paid tributes to him to mark the occasion.
