Rahul Gandhi hands over key to 6th Thanal beneficiary

House built in record 35 days.

Kochi: It was quite a surprise for Meenakshi Narayanan, a resident of Cheranellor panchayat, when she was handed over key of her new house constructed under Hibi Eden MLA’s Thanal Housing project for flood victims by none other than Congress President Rahul Gandhi the other day.

Though initially included in his itinerary, the key handing over ceremony of sixth house constructed under the project was cancelled from Gandhi’s scheduled programmes in the city due to time constraint.

However, the Congress president conveyed his desire to meet the beneficiary upon arrival on January 28.

“I was not told about Rahulji and instead was informed that the sponsor wanted to see us. However, when we reached the Ernakulam Guest House on Tuesday noon, Rahulji himself handed over the key,” said Meenakshi who is living along with her two sons.

The two-bed room house, sponsored by World Malayali Council, was constructed in a record 35 days. Hibi Eden MLA said so far foundation stones were laid for construction of 19 houses and that a total of 50 houses will be reconstructed under the project.
