No visible symptom of immunisation: Doctor over death of two-month-old girl

There was a complaint at 1.30 p.m that the child had developed some problems. At 2.30 pm, the parents complained that the child is dead.

Mancherial: A two-month-old girl allegedly died after a reaction to being administered a pentavalent injection and polio vaccine IPV1 at a primary healthcare centre in Krishna Colony in Srirampur in Mancherial district on Wednesday.

Mother Kadamanda Srilatha rushed the child to Hasitha Hospital nearby, complaining that the baby had lost consciousness. She said that the baby was not drinking milk when she tried to feed her. Dr Anil Reddy of Hasitha Hospital said that the child was brought dead. The mother complained to police and medical officials.

District health and medical officer Dr A. Bheeshma said the child was immunised at 10.30 am.

Dr Bheeshma said, “We spoke to Dr Anil Reddy and he said that the child was brought dead. Initial examination of the child’s body shows that there is no visible symptom of immunisation reaction like swelling of the lips and neck.”

“There are no rashes on the body which is also another reaction of vaccine. There was nothing visible. We have to now investigate and find out exactly what has happened,” he added.
