Chennai: The Teppotsavam at the ancient Sri Tripurasundari Vaaleshwarar temple at Koovathur, which was resurrected by the locals and philanthropists, was held in a grand manner for three days.
The event concluded on Tuesday. The temple, said to be over 1,000 years was reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore and the Kumbhabhishekam was performed recently. With the temple tank too renovated and brimming with water, the authorities decided to conduct the Teppotsavam for the first time in known history in Koovathur, located about 9 km from Kalpakkam on the Chennai- ECR road.
On the first day i.e. Jan. 28, the decorated image of the Lord Vaaleeswarar (Lord Siva) with Goddess Tripurasundari was taken on a celestial ride on the decked float on the Swamy pushkarini (tank). The Sivalingam in this temple is said to be unique as it contains 16 faces (Pattai Lingam) and the Lord is seen facing east. Shrines for Lord Ganesh, Subrahmanya, Bairavar, Suryan and Chandran also exist in this temple.
