Karnataka: RTOs to offer more online services

While the software is being installed, certain functions at RTOs may get affected, says Transport Commissioner.

Bengaluru: The Transport Department will implement its online services Vahan-4 and Sarathi-4 across all RTOs in the state.Transport Commissioner B. Dayananada told reporters, "The Vahana software was introduced in the RTOs of Ramanagara as a pilot and Sarathi in the RTOs of the city. They were found to be effective, and now we have decided to implement them at all RTOs across the state to make operations hassle-free."

He said, "While the software is being installed, certain functions at RTOs may get affected. The software will be installed at all the 67 RTOs in the state in a phased manner so as not to inconvenience the public. Our aim is to ensure that all RTOs have the software up and running by February-end."

A senior officer from the transport department said that the software was developed by the central government along with the National Informatics Centre (NIC). "After the installation, it will have a lot of online facilities. People can apply for vehicle registration, hypothecation, transferring of vehicle owner at the time of selling, paying road tax and many more will be available in Vahan-4. The learner and driving licence can be applied through Sarathi-4. People don't have to wait in long queues just to pay the fee. Once they apply through online, the applicant will get an acknowledgement number on his mobile phone and he can follow it up."

Ban on 2-stroke autos from April 1?
Transport department sources said that from April 1, two-stroke autorickshaws will be banned on city roads. The drivers can convert the vehicle into electric battery operated mode. A request has been made to provide Rs 30,000 as subsidy to drivers to convert the vehicle and the matter will be discussed with senior officers, who will take the government's consensus.
