Telangana Wakf Board erred on Ashoorkhanas: Shia Muslims
Hyderabad: The TS Wakf Board’s claim on the number Ashoorkhanas has irked Shia Muslims in the state. The Wakf Board has been claiming that as per its records, there are only 183 Ashoorkhanas belonging to Shia Muslims.
The All India Shia Organisation claims that there are 11,000 Ashoorkhanas registered with the Wakf Board in TS and this data has been published in the AP Gazette. AISO president Mir Hadi Ali, reacting to a report published in this newspaper on Monday, wrote to the Wakf Board CEO objecting to its claim.
He brought to the notice of the CEO that a division bench of the AP High Court had in 1988 ruled in favour of constitution of separate Board for Shia Muslims if there are 15 per cent Shia Wakf institutions or if 15 per cent of income of total revenue of the Board generated is through the Wakf institutions of Shia Muslims.
He said the Apex Court had in 2000 directed the erstwhile AP Wakf Board to conduct survey of Shia institutions in the state and constitute a separate board if either properties or income from Shia institutions are found to be 15 per cent.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Shia Muslims met Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in Delhi over the issue.
