Telangana: Harassed woman ends life
Hyderabad: Troubled by the constant harassment of her husband for not bearing children, a 21-year-old housewife committed suicide in Rajendra-nagar on Sunday night. B. Sayamma was found hanging from the ceiling by her husband Raju on Monday morning. He brought her down and informed her parents. Police said Sayamma married Raju, who was working as a daily wage labourer three years ago, and they were staying in Gandhinagar.
Raju married Sayamma after a relationship of around a year. He got addicted to alcohol a few months after marriage, and started troubling her as she was unable to conceive. Raju used to come home heavily drunk and beat her severely. He also assaulted his parents when they told him not to harass Sayamma. On Sunday night, he came home heavily drunk, picked up a quarrel with Sayamma, and assaulted her.
“Raju beat her up severely and pushed her to the wall. He also pushed his father when he came to Sayamma’s help. After the fight he slept outside at night,” Rajendranagar police inspector V. Umender said. On Monday morning when he came inside the house, he saw Sayamma hanging from the ceiling on a sari. He brought her down, informed her parents and fled from home. Police registered a case under Section 498-A (harassment) and 306 (abetment to suicide) against Raju.
Police found an abrasion on the back of Sayamma’s head, which forensic experts said could have been caused when she was pushed against the wall. The case is being investigated by the police.
