Telangana discoms await CM K Chandrasekhar Rao meeting
Hyderabad: TS Discoms are likely to seek a week’s extension from the state Electricity Regulatory Commission for to file the tariff proposals for 2017-18. January 31 is the last date to file the tariff proposals before the Regulatory Commission.
TS Transco officials are waiting for an appointment with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to discuss the tariff proposals and government subsidy to Discoms in the ensuing financial year.
Transco sources said if the CM gives an appointment to discuss the issue before the deadline, they can submit the tariff proposals on Tuesday. According to TS Transco estimation, Rs 31,984 crore is required for the Discoms in 2017-18.
They estimate that the revenue gap will be about Rs 8,000 crore. Depending on the state government subsidy, Discoms will finalise the tariff proposals for various types of consumers. In the current financial year TS government has given Rs 4,500 crore subsidy to Discoms.
TS Transco is now asking the government to take responsibility of the entire revenue gap of Rs 8,000 crore. This decision will be taken by the Chief Minister.
While joining the Central government’s Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY), the debts of two TS Discoms —Rs 11,897 core of the total debt — were waived by the state government and it has taken over the responsibility of repayment.
This will help TS Transco save Rs 890 crore per year in the form of not repaying outstanding debts and interest.
