Karnataka: No consensus yet on cabbies' protest

Drivers went on strike last week against the lack of promised earnings and incentives.

Bengaluru: Cab aggregators, Ola and Uber, and cab drivers have failed to arrive at a consensus on several issues faced by the drivers and report back to the transport department and Commissioner M.K. Ayyappa set Monday as the deadline.

Drivers went on strike last week against the lack of promised earnings and incentives. A list of eight demands was submitted to the Transport Department. “Cab companies have asked for one more week. We told them we would commit suicide when they didn’t respond, but they pleaded for extra time," said
Mr Kiran Gowda, President, Karunada Rajya Taxi Owners and Drivers Association.

“They requested us to not stop services for another week. If a decision isn’t made by then, we will stop services," he said. Mr Ayyappa has banned Ola Share and Uber Pool services as they are against the state rules. Cabs are allowed to pick up and drop a single customer and not take multiple customers en route.
