Hyderabad: Students' work to be patented

Telangana government is taking steps in this regard to encourage students pursue science in their higher studies.

HYDERABAD: Some meritorious school student from Telangana are likely to have patents registered for their innovative projects. Telangana government is taking steps in this regard to encourage students pursue science in their higher studies. This is the first instance in Telangana state or even in the nearly six-decade combined state rule that the government has come forward to file patents on projects developed by children.

Some of the projects shortlisted include eco-friendly fungal repellent preservative paper, vermi wash, cool home and ways to raise efficiency of solar panel. These projects were the official entries from TS at the National Children Science Cong-ress (NCSC) in Maharashtra and the Indian Science Cong-ress held earlier this month in Tirupati. Four to five students from Devnar School for Blind, Delhi Public School, Warangal, Gre-enwood High School, Warangal, Tejasvi Vidyaranya, Ranga Reddy and Ekashila Techno School, Warangal formed a team to work on projects. They were assisted by school teachers in the task.

Dr. Chand Pasha, State Academic Co-ordinator for the NCSC, said that they were doing novelty search and drafting as part of filing patents. “We will approach the Indian Patent Office in Chennai to file patents. We must ensure that the application methodology should be new to get patent. Registration, scrutiny of application, examining the project and final publication will take nearly 18 months,” he said.
