Bengaluru steel flyover: National Green Tribunal hearing today

Submission on behalf of the applicants opposing the steel flyover concluded on Monday.

Bengaluru: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), southern bench, on Monday adjourned the hearing on the controversial steel flyover from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal to Tuesday.

The Citizens for Bengaluru were allowed to implead. The State Environment Impact Assessment Authority filed their reply to the main application filed by the Citizens’ Action Forum on January 18.

Submission on behalf of the applicants opposing the steel flyover concluded on Monday. The matter stands adjourned to Tuesday for respondents’ submissions, the court said.

The National Green Tribunal allowed the BDA to take up works related to soil sampling and investigation and surveys but no construction works as the interim stay is extended until the next hearing, CfB impleaded and became a petitioner along with CAF, indicating the wide public opposition to the steel flyover. CfB believes that the steel flyover project spells doom for the fragile air quality and environment and the BDA should heed to the public cries of Steel Flyover Beda.
