Andhra Pradesh: Some of Smart City's streets to get smarter'

Some of the streets of the city will be turned into smart streets at par with global standards.

Visakhapatnam: Some of the streets of the city will be turned into smart streets at par with global standards. They are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists, said district Collector and GVMC special officer Pravin Kumar. On a Monday, the representatives of the Project Management Consultant of the Vizag Smart City project, AECOM, gave a PowerPoint presentation on smart streets concept here in the GVMC office.

Vizag MP K. Haribabu, GVMC commissioner M. Hari Narayanan, traffic ACP K. Prabhakar, APEPDCL SE Surya Prakash and officials from various other departments took part in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pravin Kumar informed that a total of 7 km will be developed as smart streets in the first phase, including 4.9 km Waltair main road and 2.1 km in China Waltair.

Mr Kumar said that special lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, accessible public transportation stops and environment-friendly measures will be the major components of the proposed smart streets. Mr Haribabu asked the officials to seek the opinions of the stakeholders of the city in designing the detailed project report of the smart streets. AECOM representative Vishal Kundra explained the smart streets concept to the officials and peoples’ representatives. Chief City Planner A. Suresh Kumar, Zonal Commissioner P. Nallanayya, superintending engineers of GVMC and others were present.
