Kanimozhi decries AIADMK's liquor policy

Women protestors wore garlands strung by wine bottles and around 2000 people took part in the demonstration.

Coimbatore: The DMK women’s wing secretary and MP, Ms Kanimozhi on Saturday charged that welfare schemes had not been reaching the people in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing her party cadres at a demonstration held at South taluk office here, demanding to implement total prohibition, she said financial assistance to senior citizens, aid to pregnant women and marriage assistance to women were eluding the beneficiaries.

Alleging that preference was given to AIADMK members during the distribution of freebies like mixers, grinders and electric fans, Ms Kanimozhi said less than 40 per cent of the targeted people benefited from the scheme. “The rest were sold as household items in the market,” she claimed.

Hitting out at the ruling AIADMK for the Law and order getting out of control and crime rates doubling in almost every Tamil Nadu city, Ms Kanimozhi said despite a state wide protest demanding total prohibition, including by women with disabilities, the ruling party continued to ignore their cries even after the death of the Gandhian worker, Sasi Perumal. All these will be reflected in the coming Assembly elections, she said.
