K Babu to take back resignation
KOCHI: Excise and Fisheries Minister K. Babu has decided to withdraw his resignation from the cabinet as per the decision of the Congress and the ruling United Democratic Front.
Mr Babu told reporters at his residence in Tripunithura in Kochi on Saturday that although he had mentally resigned as minister, the demand of the party could not be ignored. “As a disciplined party worker, I am bound to obey the directive of the party,” he said.
Mr. Babu also said that he was not interested in creating any difficulty for the Congress and the UDF by sticking to his personal wishes and agenda.
He did not wish to have an image better than that of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. “It is not right to think or wish in those terms” Mr. Babu said while recalling the help and opportunities provided to him in his political career by leaders such as Mr. Chandy.
He also stated that as a public servant, he was not a person residing in the prison of his own image. “I have never craved after my own image,” he added.
“The political situation at present is not the same as when I had submitted the resignation,” he said. “I submitted the resignation for upholding the principle of political morality and it was a personal decision. I had not even waited for filing an appeal before the High Court against the Vigilance Court verdict,” he said and added that the “Vigilance Court order was untimely and improper.”
