Endowments eyes own power

4,000-MU project proposed near Jagaiahpet in Krishna district.

Vijayawada: The endowments department is planning to establish a solar power unit that would generate 4,000-million units a day in Krishna district. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (Nedcap) and the state endowments department are jointly conducting a study for setting up the solar power generation project. A part of the study has already been completed and a report was also submitted. The proposed solar power will be utilised for temples across the state, except Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD).

Already a 300-acre site, belonging to Sri Ranganayaka Swami temple, has been identified to set up the power generation unit near Jagaiahpet in Krishna district. According to the officials, the endowments department is very keen to produce its own power for its departmental needs, including temples and related offices. According to the report submitted by the Nedcap and state endownments department, the land belonging to Ranganayaka Swami temple is suitable for setting up the solar power unit. The 300 acres land is centrally located to the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh and it is also adjacent to capital region. The government can also utilise the power for the capital, said an official. Nedcap district manager J. Srinivasa Rao said the government is yet to take a decision on the location of the plant and the power stations.

Energy is a main resource that should be provided to industries to facilitate industrialisation which in turn would generate employment. The endowments department wants to have its own power for the smooth functioning of temples and other centres of worship.
