E-bids invited for health staff

Senior officials told Deccan Chronicle that the company had failed to recruit doctors because of the low pay on offer.

Chennai: The Greater Chennai corporation is once again on the lookout for man power suppliers to provide them with doctors and other paramedical staff to fill the huge vacancies in its health department.

The local body is in need of 64 medical officers, who should be MBBS holders or postgraduates in medicine, and 703 para medical staff including nurses, lab technicians and pharmacists for filling vacancies in its 133 urban primary health centres.

The GCC’s first attempt with Falcon Security Services private limited ended in despair for the local body as the latter defaulted on the agreement.

Senior officials told Deccan Chronicle that the company had failed to recruit doctors because of the low pay on offer.

“The company offered a salary less than Rs 10,000 which meant no one was interested,” said an official.

However, it remains a mystery as to why Falcon was chosen in the first place as, according to their name, the company did not have prior experience in supplying temporary doctors.

“Their portfolio was to supply private security guards,” an official added.

With health department services taking a hit, the GCC has now earmarked Rs 3.69 crore as salary for the 64 medical officers and a further Rs 9.54 crore as salary for the 703 paramedical staff vacancies.

E-bids have been invited from prospective firms who can supply these staff for a period between six and 12 months.
